The punter commitment re-affirmed he would sign with the Rebels, and he said the weekend was about a lot more than just that.
"It all went great," said the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Catholic High School in Little Rock. "I got to meet with some academic people and business professors. I learned about that side of things."
He had already seen the athletics facilities and had visited the campus. So this weekend was about more than just the football side.
Campbell enjoyed his time getting to know the players, and he said everyone treated him and the other recruits well.
"Justin Sparks was my host," he said. "We were at the basketball game for the Cotton Bowl presentation. That was great. The whole school seems to be in love with football."
Campbell was named the Associated Press All-Arkansas Super Team Punter, as well as first-team All-State and All-Metro. He averaged 39.7 yards on 48 punts this past season.
With Rob Park graduating from Ole Miss after several seasons with the Rebs, the punting duties are a wide-open race.
"I'm looking forward to coming in and competing for the job," Campbell said. "I know the situation, and I know I'll have to work to be the punter. That's what I plan to do."
And besides the academic side of his visit, of course he was in Oxford for football. He said the weekend overall was terrific.
"My mind was already made up, but I learned even more about the school," said Campbell, who also had interest from Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Tulsa, and Mississippi State. "It was all amazing. I can't wait to get there."
