"We came up a little short in the (MS/AL) game, but I had fun, and I was proud to represent my state and my home town. I had fun. It was an exciting event to be a part of. I went up against a lot of great players. It let me know where I stood."
And what does Skinner stand against the elite players from the two states?
"I think it showed that I belong in that group. I left there with a lot of confidence."
Skinner had a banner season as he racked up 134 tackles, 21 for loss, 11 sacks, and 19 QB hurries.
"My attitude was the biggest difference this season. I just came out every game well prepared because I watched a lot of film. I took football a lot more serious this year. I think I improved in a lot of ways as a player because I was so dedicated."
Skinner is in the middle of visiting the "Big 3" from the State of Mississippi.
"I went to USM last weekend, and I am going to MSU this weekend and Ole Miss on the last weekend."
How did the USM visit go for the MSU commit?
"I had fun. They really impressed me more than I thought they were going to. I liked their campus, and I was really impressed with their coaches. I had a lot of fun."
What stood out the most about Southern?
"The thing about USM that I liked most was their staff. They made me feel like they were normal people. They will take care of you. The thing that stood out about it to me was how well I got a long with their coaches."
The 6' 2", 234 pound end was originally set to visit Mississippi State on the last weekend but moved that visit to this upcoming weekend. Why?
"The recruiter from Ole Miss wanted me to come up the 30th, and I told the recruiter from MSU that I was just going to go ahead and visit them this weekend."
What is going on with Ole Miss?
"I am still committed to MSU, but if I take my visit, and I feel like they have more to offer me, that is where I am going to go. But right now, I am still pretty solid."
The Rebels wanted to know if Skinner was really serious about Ole Miss before setting up the visit.
"When I spoke to Coach Nix the other night, he asked me if I was serious about Ole Miss, or if I am just taking a visit to take a visit. I told him I was serious. I want to check out their campus and coaches and see if they really need me."
Ole Miss is heavily in the mix for Deontae's teammate, Pat Patterson, but that is not going to effect Skinner's decision.
"That really is not going to be a factor for me. I just tell him where ever he goes, we will still always be teammates and boys from high school. If it works out that we end up at the same school, then that would be great, but we are not going to base our decision on where the other is going."
Skinner has built a tight bond with Coach Reed Stringer from MSUm, who was left over from the previous staff.
"He was a big reason why I committed. The two biggest reasons I decided on MSU are him and the fact that it is only 20 minutes from home."
