Craig Drummond update

Army All-American Defensive End Craig Drummond visited Ole Miss over the weekend. Read some thoughts on his visit inside.

After Morgan Park, IL, Defensive End Craig Drummond decided the University of Illinois, who he committed to earlier in the recruiting process, was not for him for "several reasons," and he opened up his recruitment again, the 6-5, 265-pounder was quoted as saying he was looking "for the right fit."

Drummond, an Army All-American and 4-star prospect, visited Ole Miss with his Mother over the weekend.

Did the Rebel program fit his needs?

"Everything was very nice. The only concern we have is distance from home. We will discuss that when we get home and after the next visit," said his Mother, Virginia, who accompanied Craig on his visit to Oxford/Ole Miss. "Everything else was fine, very good. There were no minuses."

Mrs. Drummond felt the Rebels put their best foot forward in attaining the services of her son.

"The academics and athletics were very good," she said. "The coaching staff and all the personnel were wonderful. We liked it very much."

Which brings us back to distance.

"The distance from home is a concern, but it's not a major factor," Mrs. Drummond continued. "We have family in Arkansas, so that helps a little, but it is a long way from Illinois. That is something we will have to consider."

Drummond, a quiet sort, was brief in his comments.

"Ole Miss was fine. Coach (Terry) Price and the other coaches are cool," he said. "I really don't know what I am going to do yet.

"I don't have a time line yet. I'm taking an official visit to Michigan State Tuesday and Wednesday and go from there," Drummond noted.

It had been rumored before his visit to Ole Miss that Drummond may also visit Tennessee, but Mrs. Drummond refuted that.

"The only other visit Craig will take is Michigan State," she stated.

Drummond is seeking mid-year enrollment at the university of his choice so there is obviously some urgency in his decision, but he said first things first.

Unless he changes his mind between now and Tuesday, which does not seem likely, Rebel fans will be waiting anxiously for the results of his Michigan State visit.

Drummond, on film and in person, is an imposing figure with sure major college ability. Maybe beyond.

His commitment would be a feather in the cap of any program.

Could the 4-star DE be a Rebel? A few more days should settle the issue.
