Montez Phillips Update -

Lafayette HS standout Montez Phillips didn't have to travel far for his first and final official visit. Read about it inside.

The ATH tripped to Ole Miss over the weekend and came away impressed.

"The visit went good," Phillips said. "I liked everything about it. I got good vibes from the players and coaches. My dad came with me and he liked it a lot. I had a good time."

The MS/AL All-Star selection was hosted by sophomore tight end Reggie Hicks who he said showed him a good time.

"Reggie Hicks was my host and he was real cool," said Phillips. "We basically visited the campus, took a tour of the facilities and went to the parties at night. I liked everything. I got a god vibe from all the players I met. They're all pretty cool."

He also got to visit head coach Houston Nutt's house and was impressed with what he saw.

"We went to Coach Nutt's house, which was cool," he said. "We walked around, watched some TV and went outside and saw his lake. He's got a big house. I had a good time."

The Oxford native also had a one-on-one meeting with Nutt on Sunday. What did the Rebel leader have to say?

"We really talked about the basic stuff," he said. "He wants me to get in by July to settle in. We didn't really talk about what position I'd play, but he wants me to get here to start throwing and catching. I'm pretty sure I'll be playing receiver."

Did the visit reaffirm Phillips' commitment to Ole Miss?

"I'm still committed," he said. "Ole Miss is who I'll be signing with most likely. I'm not taking anymore visits."

Montez had over 1, 300 yards of offense and 18 TD's of offense as a senior and is retaking the ACT in February. Phillips has a 2.7 core GPA.
