Rebels receive visit from OT Shun Coleman

The 6' 7", 275 pound lineman out of Olive Branch spoke to the offensive line coach at MSU last week. In that conversation, Shun was informed that the Dogs were close to offering. Today, that offer became a reality.

"They called Coach Samsel about two hours ago, and told him that I had a scholarship offer," added Shun Coleman. "Last week I spoke to their OL coach, and he told they were going to offer me because I was the perfect fit. Today, they told my coach that they were offering me. I spoke to Coach Mullins and their offensive line coach on the phone this morning and had a good talk with them."

Where does MSU now stand?

"I have built a pretty good relationship with those guys too. They are the first school to offer me. They offered me like a 200,000 dollar scholarship, so anybody who does that, they are going to stand pretty good with me (laugh)."

Who is closest to offering next?

"Coach Joe Wickline at Oklahoma State told me they were going to offer me pretty soon."

Has Coleman been on any Spring visits?

"I went to Ole Miss last weekend for Jr Day with my teammates, Reggie Wiliams and Brandon Timmons."

What new did Shun learn about the Rebels during the trip?

"They have a lot of history, and a pretty good weight room and a pretty good coaching staff."

What did the Ole Miss coaches have to say?

"They said they liked my size, and they are losing 3 OT's this year and they need some more OT's."

What stood out the most during the visit?

"The coaching staff. I have built a good relationship with Coaches Austin and Markuson. They are pretty cool. I think they are being real about who is leaving and their need for some more offensive tackles. I watched some film with them, and they work the zone a lot. I like to play in that type of offensive scheme. I think I fit in pretty nicely down there. They have been recruiting me harder than everybody else so they stand pretty high."

Who else is involved?

"Oklahoma State is recruiting me pretty good. MSU just offered me. Tennessee, Auburn, UCLA, UCF, Arkansas, and UAB."

Anymore visits on tap?

"I plan on going to the MSU Spring game, and I am going up to Tennessee and back down to Ole Miss for their Spring game. I might go to Auburn. I want to go to as many colleges as I can see."

Any colleges camps on the horizon?

"The only one I have signed up to so far is the Ole Miss Sr camp on June 7th. I might be going to MSU too."

What does Shun consider to be his strengths on the field?

"Well, I have played defensive end and offensive guard my whole life until this year. They are moving me over to offensive tackle. I do real good in traps. Most of my pancakes are on traps. I have a lot of speed and good footwork."

The Olive Branch head coach chimes in.

"Shun played left guard last year," added Coach Scott Samsel. "He played some defensive end because we needed him on the defensive side of the ball. He looks more like a TE in a tight end offense, but we are going to move him to offensive tackle this year. He pulls and traps very well. Shun has a bright future because of his great feet. He can run a 4.9 forty and can put on another 20 pounds of good weight."
