The Regional Special Olympics were held at Ole Miss today and some invited guests stopped by for the activities.
Ole Miss Coach Houston Nutt, his wife Diana and members of his Rebel coaching staff took in some of the events and met with the athletes.
"It was a wonderful opportunity to get to meet the athletes at the Special Olympics," said Nutt. "It was a heartwarming experience for me, Diana and our football family.
"To see their energy, enthusiasm and pride while they are out there competing is something you can learn a lot from. We were hoping to teach them something today, but they ended up teaching us way more. You have to make the most of every day you have, regardless of your circumstances, and these young people certainly do that with a smile."
Nutt plans on expanding the participation of the Ole Miss football team with Special Olympics in the future.
"Special Olympics is an amazing, amazing program," he continued. "I commend all of those who participate along with the many tireless volunteers who give their time and efforts to make this day possible and a tremendous event.
"Next year, I look forward to getting our players more involved in Special Olympics and this wonderful event. We can all learn so much from these young people and we intend to take advantage of that opportunity."
