Men's conference at Tad Smith

Houston Nutt and former Colorado Coach Bill McCartney will be the keynote speakers at a men's conference called 'The Standard' at Tad Smith Coliseum May 1-2. You're invited. Read about it inside.

What are you doing now you would like to do differently? How have you succeeded or failed as a man? Where do you turn when the cards you are dealt are not the winning hand? It's said the definition of insanity is to continue to do what you have been doing while expecting different results.

Those issues, and many more, will be discussed at "The Standard," a men's conference to be held Friday, May 1 - Saturday, May 2 at Tad Smith Coliseum.

"We are very excited about this men's conference on the Ole Miss campus," said Ole Miss Strength & Conditioning Coach Don Decker, who will join with Campus Crusade Director Isaac Jenkins to emcee the event. "We have a lot of wonderful speakers lined up to share with men who attend ways to improve their lives."

On Friday night, Ole Miss Coach Houston Nutt will be the keynote speaker. Saturday morning, former Colorado Coach Bill McCartney will share his story.

"Coach McCartney started Promise Keepers. He's a very inspirational man," Decker continued. "And anyone who has ever been around Coach Nutt knows his values and beliefs are strong. When you interact with them, you want to be a better man. They have set a high standard for themselves, one I try to emulate and live by.

"We see it every day with Coach Nutt and the way he challenges his players to play like a champion, work like a champion and live like a champion. We want to challenge all men to live like champions."

"The Standard" will paint a picture for men who want to improve their lives.

"We want to challenge men to rise up and be better as a husband, a father, a friend, a part of a community and a professional," Decker stated.

Besides Nutt and McCartney, former Rebel Fullback Jason Cook and other former players and other coaches will speak at the event.

"We have a great weekend planned with excellent speakers and we have some musical guests lined up as well," Decker closed. "This kind of event doesn't happen very often so we invite every man to take advantage of this opportunity."

Friday's session will be from 7-9 p.m. Saturday morning's activities will be from 9 a.m.-noon.

The ticket cost is $25 for the whole weekend, with the event being sponsored by Campus Crusade and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

After expenses, all proceeds left over will be donated to those two organizations.

Tickets are available at the door, at the website or by calling 1-662-816-9111 or 1-662-607-2400.
