Nick had a prior surgery on a torn meniscus, and he re-aggravated it after his junior season.
"I actually had surgery last May, the end of my sophomore year, but I hurt it again in January. It was nothing major. They are just taking a precaution. I feel about 90% back. I feel good."
Griffin is still bettering himself without physically practicing.
"I am studying our offense and defense as best as I can. I am going over everything with our coaches. I am running more, lifting more, and doing everything I can to finally have a healthy senior season."
Last season his numbers slipped some on offense as he rushed for over 1, 300 yards as a sophomore but only 720 as a junior. Was this due to the injury?
"I felt healthy last year, but I think I was a little hesitate on it until about the middle of the season."
On defense, his numbers rose last season as he totaled 82 tackles and 4 int's after 64 stops his sophomore campaign.
"I was named the District 8(3A) Defensive Player of the Year and 2nd Team All-State."
Defense is where most project Nick to play on the next level.
"My size is my biggest strength. Everybody tells me that I am a big guy that can run fast. They are all talking about me playing safety."
Although Nick has not physically participated in practice, that has not stopped college coaches from coming to see him this spring.
"Coach Dickerson at Ole Miss came by last Thursday, and Coach Whyatt from USM came by for a day too."
College coaches started calling on May 1st.
"Coaches Tony Hughes (MSU), Kitchens (Vandy), Dickerson (OM), and and Coach Daryl Whyatt have called so far. MSU and USM have offered me. Stanford has too. Vandy and Ole Miss are also showing me a lot of interest."
What stands out about USM?
"I like the fact that it is real close to home. I grew up down the road, and I really like Larry Fedora. He is a player's coach."
"My older brother went to MSU, Joseph Griffin. He did not play sports or anything, although I tried to talk him into playing in college. But I use to go up there all of the time to see him. The campus is beautiful, and I like it that it is in the SEC. I have always liked the SEC and Bulldogs."
"I do not know too much about Stanford. It would be a great experience to go up there and visit. Hopefully I will be able to do that. I want to see what the campus is like. I like their academic reputation though."
Griffin is no stranger in the classroom either as he reports a 3.6 GPA and 22 on the ACT.
"My family made me take academics serious at a young age, and it has always carried over. You can't play football for ever."
What stands out about Ole Miss?
"I do not know too much about Ole Miss, but they are in the SEC. I went up there for the Egg Bowl three years back when my brother was still in school. My brother was pretty mad about the game because he does not too much like Ole Miss. They are big rivals with MSU, but I loved their campus too, and they are also in the SEC. I am hoping to go back up there a few more times before I sign. Coach Dickerson is wanting to get me up there for their Sr camp, so I am hoping to be able to practice again by June so I can show them what I got."
Vandy is also highly interested.
"Coach Kitchens from Vandy called me last week as well. He told me pretty much the same things. They are interested in getting me up there for a camp so they can look at me. I like their whole academic program up there. If you get a degree form Vandy, you can pretty much do what ever you want to do after college."
Who would Nick like to see increase the recruiting attention?
"Vandy and Ole Miss. I am really interested in those two schools, and I am hoping they offer me."
