The coaching staff is excited about the potential of true frosh Charles Sawyer, who is redshirting, but it's no wonder they are searching high and low for a junior college corner.
Michael Harris, a 5-11 180-pounder from El Camino CC by way of Miami, FL, is prominently on their list.
Harris committed to Florida State - in his home state - last Thursday, but he honored his official visit to Ole Miss over the weekend.
"I had a great visit to Ole Miss. I really liked it. The coaches and players were great. They are a family and I liked that," said Harris. "The facilities are really nice too. Ole Miss puts you in a great position to achieve your best from getting stronger and faster in the weight room, to class room tutoring, to having everything right there at your fingertips in one location for football and academics."
Harris met with Rebel Coach Houston Nutt this morning and said he was pleased with the way the meeting went.
"He told me to go see FSU next weekend and compare and then make the best decision for me," said Michael. "There was no pressure - he just wanted me to do what was best for me and I appreciate that. I like Coach Nutt. He's a cool guy and I asked the players about playing for him and they said they work hard, but they have fun doing it. That appeals to me."
There are several factors that could go in Ole Miss' favor in terms of his final decision.
One, even though he's from Miami, FL, he said location is not a factor with him.
"I'm just looking for the best fit. I don't care where it is. I mean I went to junior college in California. That tells you something," he stated.
Two, both of Ole Miss' starting corners are graduating.
"I feel I would have a great chance to come in and start, or play, early at Ole Miss. I am also impressed that they rotate as many people as they can to keep everyone fresh, so my chances of playing early increase," he stated.
Three, the SEC versus the ACC.
"That's not a big factor, but it is something I have to consider. The SEC is the best conference and if you want to be the best you have to play against the best," he closed.
Will Michael Harris stick with his commitment to Florida State or head to Oxford?
After his visit to Ole Miss, the answer seems to be up in the air.
