Shifting Gears

Three-star linebacker Ralph Williams (Miami, Fla.) was expected in Oxford this weekend for an official visit to Ole Miss. However, after visiting with Rebel recruiting coordinator Chris Vaughn Tuesday, there's been a change in plans. Read about it inside.

Though committed to Tennessee, the recruitment of three-star linebacker Ralph Williams is far from over.

Along with the Volunteers, the Miami, Fla. native claims offers from Arkansas and Ole Miss. In fact, Williams was expected in Oxford this weekend for an official visit, but there has apparently been a change of plans.

"I'm not visiting Ole Miss this weekend," Williams said late Tuesday. "(Recruiting coordinator/cornerbacks) Coach (Chris) Vaughn came by today and we rescheduled my visit for January. I can't remember the exact date."

Currently, Ole Miss is in a numbers crunch due to the loss of three scholarships by way of an APR hit. Williams said the issue was part of his discussion with Vaughn during the visit.

"(Coach Vaughn) told me the situation they're in," he said. "They lost three scholarships (due to APR). He said they're not able to accept any linebacker commitments right now, but they're working on getting that worked out. I hope it does. He said I'm the only linebacker they'll take. I'll have my scholarship."

Williams said he was obviously disappointed in the news of delaying his visit, but arrangements are being worked out for he and fellow Floridians Delvin Jones and Ole Miss commitment Jeff Scott to visit on January 14.

"It hurt when I got that news today. But it'll be alright," said Williams. "Jeff Scott wanted to come up with me. He's committed to (Ole Miss) right now. We were talking about that situation. I still really like Ole Miss."

The 6-foot-1, 222 pounder said he remains open to all interested schools, and will make his decision after taking his remaining visits - if not earlier.

"I'm committed to Tennessee, but everybody's even right now," he said. "I'll probably know (the school of choice) after I take all my visits. It'll probably be the end of this month or in January."
