You hear it repeatedly, and it's true - Ole Miss Football Coach Houston Nutt cares deeply about the spiritual development of his players.
Consequently, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is near and dear to his heart.
"As a young person, I know what the FCA meant to me," said Nutt. "I know what it means to our athletes. The FCA is a very important part of the development of our athletes."
As a result, Nutt has no hesitation in lending his name, time and financial assistance to the Ole Miss Chapter of the FCA.
He's also asking the Rebel nation to do the same, and have some fun along the way, by participating in the annual Houston Nutt FCA Golf Tournament at the Ole Miss Golf Course Monday, July 19.
"The Ole Miss FCA is self-supporting and survives solely from donations and fund-raising events like the annual golf tournament," Houston, who was named the FCA Coach of the Year in 2009, continued. "I want to urge all Rebels to participate - we need your help - and we'll have a good time interacting that day. Most importantly, all donations and money raised goes directly to help fund the ministry of FCA at Ole Miss."
The four-man scramble will be played on the Ole Miss Golf Course. For those who have not visited or played there recently, you will be in for a treat.
The renovation from a couple of years ago has now taken root, so to speak.
"The course is in great shape. We are very proud to be holding the tournament there," said FCA Director Todd Johnson. "It's a beautiful venue."
The entry fee is $400 per team, but if you want to play and don't have a team, it's $125 per individual. Your gift (entry fee) is tax deductible.
Businesses or individuals also have sponsorship opportunities available.
There is also a silent auction with valuable Ole Miss memorabilia, including footballs signed by Nutt, Eli Manning and Dexter McCluster.
With your donation, each player will receive their entry fee, lunch, fellowship with the Ole Miss coaches, an Ole Miss FCA golf shirt and participants gifts.
There will also be prizes for the longest drive, straightest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest and $10K hole-in-one prize.
The top two winning teams (gross score and net score) will advance to the state playoffs at Ole Waverly on September 28 and the top two teams from there will advance to the national scramble to be held at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach, FL, November 20-22.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. If you want to play in the afternoon, there will also be a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.
For more information, contact Todd Johnson at (662)816-7928 or email: email@example.com. You may also sign up online at OLEMISS FCA.org.
Two birds with one stone.
Have a great day of golf and mingling with the Ole Miss coaches and help the Ole Miss Chapter of FCA while doing so.
See you there!
