POLLS: Long live artificial intelligence!

SAY THIS FOR the humans – they sure don't like Oregon State as much as the computers do.

Oregon State, coming off their impressive win at No. 9 ranked Arizona, climbed back into the Associate Press Top 25 this week -- but just barely. OSU ranks No. 24 in the AP.

Meanwhile, color the USA/Today Coaches polls yawning and unimpressed with all things black and orange – they didn't think as much of the Beavs' upset win over ‘Zona, leaving Oregon State out of their respective Top 25 rankings.

The Coaches' poll has OSU at No. 29, the Harris has the Beavs at No. 27.

The biggest argument against OSU? Undoubtedly, their 3-2 record.

Beaver supporters will point out those two losses came on the road against teams ranked Nos. 3 and 4 in the nation by the AP, Nos. 3 and 5 in the Coaches Poll, and that OSU had a chance to win both games into the fourth quarter.

Beaver detractors will say, yes, but you're still 3-2.

THE COMPUTERS, HOWEVER, are showing the Beavers some love.

There are six computer rankings used in the BCS rankings formula -- Jeff Sagarin, Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey and Peter Wolfe.

Sagarin has the Beavers rated No. 11 in the nation.

Kenneth Massey rates Oregon State at No. 12.

Richard Billingsley ranks Oregon State at No. 17.

Anderson & Hester has OSU at No. 22.

Colley Matrix has the Beavers at No. 24

Peter Wolfe will not publish his rankings until Oct. 17.
