Offense Makes Progress

The crumpled remains of the Jerry Pettbone era lay outside under cloudless skies as the Beavers toiled on the lucid green turf inside the indoor practice facility.

The second week began in similar fashion as the first, minus the crowded sideline full of Beaver fans and high school coaches, with the Beavers warming up, then working on drills for just over two hours.

The offensive line continued to work on their footwork and blocking abilities on the west end of the field, while on the east end of the field, the defensive line worked on using their hands and feet better.

It is evident that the football players have embraced the new coaches at Oregon State.

Jim Gilstrap and Greg Newhouse continue to do an excellent job coaching the offensive and defensive lines with positive, helpful comments.

DelVaughn Alexander and Charlie Camp are hands-on coaches who often run part of the drills with their players.

Mark Banker, Paul Chryst, and Mike Riley provide a clarifying voice during the scrimmages.

The offense ran more plays than any other practice to the delight of the coaches.

The offensive players have embraced the new terminology and are now starting to remember the formations without a reminder from the coaches.

Derek Anderson, Adam Rothenfluh, and Anton Clarkson continue to receive the most repititions

The receivers are running better routes. The crisper routes are leading to the wide outs getting open more during the one-on-one drills with the defensive backs.

The defense continues to look for the starting cornerbacks.

Brandon Browner, D.J. Coote, Shamon Jamerson, and Aric Williams are all fighting for starting jobs. Each has had their share of good and bad plays.

The defensive line is also shuffling around with Bill Swancutt, Dwan Edwards, Henry Anderson, Jayson Jean-Baptiste, and Dan Rothwell all looking to lock up starting roles.

OSU will continue spring practice at 4:00 PM on Wednesday at Reser Stadium.
