RECRUITING - Gonzales: Did or didn't he?

THE L.A. TIMES, The Daily News, The Gazette-Times and more have all reported that Oregon State has won the recruiting battle for a sought two-way lineman out of Mission Hills, calif. -- Akeem Gonzales. But there has been nary a word from the 6-4, 250-pounder..

And none of the newspapers have a quote or attribute their sourcing on the verbal commitment of Akeem Gonzales. So what are we to make out of all of this?

One theory is that he has made his decision, and that decision is Oregon State – but he wants to announce it in his own way, and in his own time frame.

BF.C and have tried to reach Gonzales via phone and text over the past few days but have not heard back.

Gonzales is ranked the No. 63 OT prospect in the nation by and three stars. The Beavs, however, reportedly want him to come in at defensive end. Stay tuned -- and on this, that and the other -- regarding Gonzales.

ANOTHER BEAVER TARGET, and perhaps something of a longshot, is offensive tackle Torian White (6-6, 280), who has long been a UCLA commit.

According to the L.A. Times, he will make his final decision known at noon on Signing Day, "barring any leaks", on

Others with OSU offers who have yet to make their decisions known include Todd Peat, Darryl Paulo, Juda Parker and Rahmel Dockery. Meanwhile, Vi Teofilo has verballed to ASU but reported Oregon State is not giving up on him just yet.

The prevailing theory out there is that Faigame Lopa out of Grant High will commit to Cal, but some feel OSU is a strong darkhorse candidate, one that is getting stronger by the day. He is expected to announce his decision on Signing Day.

And given a number of twists and turns already this recruiting cycle, who knows if a few more Beaver surprises just might be in the works for Wednesday's Signing Day.
