Meeuwsen in as GA, says report

MITCH MEEUWSEN, WHO holds the program record for career interceptions, has been hired by Mike Riley as a graduate assistant, the school said in a release. The responsibilities of the Beav and former NFL Europe defensive back, however, are yet to be determined.

What all Mitch Meeuwsen's GA role will encompass has yet to be announced. Typically a team has an offensive and defensive GA, but the Beavs already have Alan Darlin as the graduate assistant assigned to the D, the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported.

Meeuwsen patrolled the OSU defensive backfield from 2001-04, starting 40 games in his career and totaling 217 tackles.

A semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award his senior year, Meeuwsen also earned 2004 Pac-10 First Team and Associated Press Third Team All-America honors.

Following his playing career at Oregon State, Meeuwsen signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins and later played for the San Diego Chargers through the 2006 preseason. He was then optioned in the spring of 2006 to the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe.

His school record of 20 career interceptions at Oregon State still stands.

The Beavs still have a coaching vacancy to fill following the departure of RBs coach Reggie Davis to the San Francisco 49ers. It is expected he will be in place before spring ball begins at OSU on March 28.
