OSU Prepares for Second Scrimmage

The hard working black and orange practiced underneath a roof on a sunny day in preparation for their second scrimmage on Saturday.

The level of intensity lowerd a few notches. Almost zero scuffles broke out as Mike Riley made known he does not want the players wasting time needlessly pushing each other around.

Derek Anderson threw in today's scrimmages after letting the young slingers receive some much needed repititions yesterday.

Anderson and James Newson connected for two long passes, including an athletic, leaping grab by Newson over Brandon Browner.

The offensive line bounced back nicely after getting pummeled on Wednesday.

During the running drills the men up front consistently ripped open running lanes for Steven Jackson and Ryan Cole to blast through.

Jackson and Cole showed excellent footwork running through the big men. The backs also showed the ability to bounce outside the pile for the big gain.

Despite the good blocking during the running drills, the o-line once again had problems blocking the defense during the passing drills. The tenacious defense consistenly hasseled the unfortunate quarterbacks.

Lawrence Turner picked off the only pass of the day from a deflection made by Richard Seigler and Jonathan Pollard. D.J. Coote and Brandon Catanese both had opportunities at interceptions, but could not hold onto the ball.

Bill Swancutt had a good day rushing the quarterback as he used a combination of speed and power to beat and/or overpower the offensive lineman.

OSU wraps up the third week of practice with a 12:30 p.m. scrimmage at Reser Stadium.
