Hooks played high school ball at Moss Point High in Mississippi where he averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.5 blocked shots on his way to earning the Biloxi Sun Herald Player of the Year award.
Hooks led his team to the Mississippi 5A state tournament semifinals, before losing to the 2003 champion, Vicksburg.
The southern forward joins five other signees, including two transfers and three players out of high school.
Jason Fontenent, a 5-10 guard, from New Mexico State is required to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer regulations.
All-American JC forward Jim Hanchett enrolled in the fall and will play with the Beavers for the 2003-04 season.
The three high school signess all hail from California and consist of 7-foot-2 center Liam Hughes, 6-foot-8 forward Kyle Jeffers, and 6-foot-3 guard Angelo Tsagarakis.
