CORNERBACK: Post spring evaluation

THE CORNERBACK POSITION at Oregon State lacked drama this spring -- players simply went out and did their job. But that doesn't mean there aren't still plenty of discussion points surrounding the island at OSU. Maria Bruggere, who was there for each of Beavs' 15 spring football practices, talks about the CB spot post-spring..

BF.C: Who were the guys who saw the most time with the 1s at corner?
Maria Bruggere: Brandon Hardin and Jordan Poyer.

BF.C: Poyer looks to be coming into his own a bit, no?
Maria Bruggere: Jordan Poyer is an amazing athlete. He is going to be a major player at his position and on special teams.

BF.C: What was it this spring that impressed you most?
Maria Bruggere: His ability to cover. He didn't get called for penalties and he had tight coverage. That's hard to do on a consistent basis but he did just that this spring.

BF.C: Hardin is physically imposing, he's huge for a corner. But he's also gotten a lot of flak from fans and media. How did he come out of the spring?
Maria Bruggere: Brandon Hardin is another of those wait and see things, I think…is he still going to come under fire for getting burned on ESPN highlight shows, or is he going to shut people down, make the occasional great interception? I want him to be good, and at times this spring he was. But at other times he struggled with his coverage this spring.

BF.C: Who behind those two is the biggest one to watch?
Maria Bruggere: Rashaad Reynolds. He's going to come along in the long run. How soon? That's the million dollar question. But it's not out of the realm of possibility he could end up claiming a starting spot if Hardin doesn't truly seize it or if he struggles. Reynolds did some good work out there this spring.

BF.C: Who else is in the mix?
Maria Bruggere: You know who else had a good spring, Sean Martin. He continues to get better. After that, I don't know that anyone really stood out. Ryan Handford, Brian Watkins, I think both of them need to gain confidence before they're really ready to emerge.
