BASEBALL: Beavs go for Pac-10 title vs. Ducks

OREGON STATE opens the final three game series of the season on Friday night at PK Park against cross-state rival Oregon. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. PT. The Beavers are in first place by one game in the Pac-10 over both Arizona State and UCLA.

Oregon State lost their first Pac-10 series of the year this past weekend against USC. But they're still only one of four power conference programs to have lost just one series this season, joining Virginia (ACC), Texas (Big 12) and South Carolina (SEC).

The opener on Friday could be a low scoring affair. RHP Sam Gaviglio (11-1, 1.72) goes for the Beavs against Oregon lefty Tyler Anderson (7-3, 2.24). The game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet.

If Oregon State were to sweep, they would set the all-time Pac-10 mark for league play. Oregon State has 17 victories in league play thus far, the second-most in a single season since the Pac-10 unified baseball in 1999. OSU won a program-record 19 conference games in 2005 en route to the Pac-10 title.

The pollsters were not impressed with Oregon State dropping two of three to USC this past weekend. Still, they remained highly ranked. Baseball America has them at No. 6, (down from No. 2 the week before.) OSU has been ranked in Baseball America's top 10 for seven straight weeks and in the top 25 for 10 consecutive.

Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN along with Baseball America make up the three major D-I baseball polls. The Beavs are ranked No. 6 by Collegiate Baseball, and No. 10 in the USA Today/ESPN poll.

Saturday's game is scheduled for 2 p.m. while the regular season finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
