BASEBALL: Beavs win again, one win from SR

OREGON STATE JUMPED out to a quick lead in their second game of the baseball regional and never let go. Behind the strong, complete game pitching of Sam Gaviglio, OSU won their 40th game of the season and moved ever closer to a berth in the super regional.

The Beavs bested No. 2 Creighton 5-1 on Saturday in the four team regional. Gaviglio allowed just five hits over nine innings, striking out eleven.

OSU is now just one win away from advancing. Creighton (45-15) will play a 1 pm elimination game vs. Georgia (32-31) for the right to take on OSU at 6 pm in the regional final. If OSU were to lose on Sunday night, a Monday tilt would take place in the double-elimination format.

Oregon State, the designated visiting team on Saturday, scored a run in the first on a passed ball by Creighton starter Ty Blach (10-3) and never trailed.

Creighton cut it 2-1 in the fifth with a two-out home run, but Oregon State immediately got that run back in the sixth on Carter Bell's RBI single.

Garrett Nash homered leading off the ninth, and Andrew Susac added an RBI double with two outs to give the Beavs some breathing room.

OSU reached the 40-win plateau for the fourth time in school history. The three previous teams advanced to the College World Series.
