Beav coaches hit the road recruiting

THE BEAVER COACHES are out on the road recruiting, using the last part of their bye week to focus on the 2012 class, with everyone scheduled to be back in Corvallis in advance of Monday's practice as preparations for UCLA begin in earnest. The Beavers have 11 known commits for the '12 crop, and are in very good shape on their two biggest areas of need.

"Offensive line and tight end come to mind right away," Mike Riley told BF.C back in late May when asked about the positions of greatest need for the Beavs.

Since them OSU has landed four known verbals on the o-line -- OT Gavin Andrews, OG Isaac Seumalo, OG Josh Mitchell and OG Chase Eldredge, and another two projected tight ends -- Dustin Stanton and Caleb Smith.

You can never, Riley says, have enough linebackers and corners, and those two positions figure to probably see a little more added to the 2012 black and orange stores. OSU has known commitments from MLB Joel Skotte and CB Cleveland Wallace.

The Beavs, with a small senior class, don't figure to have enough room for a full complement of 25 in the 2012 class but they shouldn't be too far off.

Riley projected OSU would be "somewhere in the 20-range", and would oversign by a few, with the plan for the overage to go the grayshirt route.

A NEW RULES CHANGE Riley mentioned in his press conference this week allows for all the coaches to be out on the road recruiting. Previously, the cap was set at a maximum 7 coaches who could be on the road at any one time.

The Beaver coaches figure to rack up the miles over the next few days. Mark Banker's recruiting areas are L.A. and Hawaii. Danny Langsdorf recruits Washington, Montana, Idaho and Oklahoma.

Mike Cavanaugh handles Arizona, and also spot recruits Oklahoma and Nevada. Jay Locey's areas are California, (Sacramento, Northern, Central Valley), Southwest Washington and Oregon. Brett Brennan recruits Orange County and the San Diego area.

Joe Seumalo recruits the California, (Bay Area, Inland Empire, High Desert) and Utah. Chris Brasfield is in Texas and Louisiana. Keith Heyward's recruiting area is Los Angeles. Bruce Read handles the Northern California region.

Mike Riley figures to potentially crisscross the country, recruiting in all areas.
