The football players weren't the only ones affected by the sudden passing of OSU d-tackle Fred Thompson. The basketball team was out of sorts in their loss to Idaho. They got back on track on Tuesday.
Jared Cunningham had 16 points and five steals for the Beavers (7-2).
Oregon State wasted little time, taking a 22-6 lead after nine straight points by Roberto Nelson and led 45-21 at halftime.
Illinois-Chicago got no closer than 19 after intermission. Daniel Barnes and Greg Travis had eight points each for Illinois-Chicago (3-6).
Nelson made three consecutive 3-pointers for Oregon State midway through the second half.
The Beavs played sound defense on Gary Talton, Illinois-Chicago's leading scorer at 16 points a game. He was held scoreless until the opening minute of the second half. He finished with four points.
