HOOPS: Another setback for Beavs

JARED CUNNINGHAM scored 21 points to pace the Beavers (10-4, 0-2). Ahmad Starks added 18 points, Joe Burton 14 and seven rebounds, while Eric Moreland collected 10 boards and scored eight points off the bench. And yet OSU suddenly fins themselves 0-2 in conference play after an 81-76 setback to WSU.

Brock Motum scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Washington State Cougars downed the Oregon State Beavers 81-76 in a Pac-12 Conference game at Spokane Arena.

DaVonte Lacy added 18 points for the Cougars (9-5, 1-1 Pac-12) who have won seven of their last eight.

Marcus Capers added 10 points, while Reggie Moore dealt out nine assists.

Washington State led 40-35 at halftime after shooting 17-of-31 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

Oregon State went 13-of-27 from the field but just 3-of-10 behind the three-point line.

The Cougars boosted their lead to 11 with 6:47 left in the game. But OSU battled back and closed the gap to three on more than one occasion.

But the Cougars were strong at the foul line, going 16-of-20 at the charity stripe after halftime.

WSU shot 53.8 percent from the floor for the game and 6-of-12 from long range.
