Offensive tackle David Keller out of Fresno's San Joaquin Memorial has verbally committed to Fresno State twice in 2011. But he's still on the market.
As 2012 begins, he will make his final decision in the next few weeks before National Signing Day on Feb. 1. He welcomed Oregon State into his home on Wednesday. On Thursday, new Bulldog head coach Tim DeRuyter is on deck…
David Keller (6-5, 300) is a cornerstone in Fresno State's 2012 recruiting class. He was the first verbal commit in the class nearly one year ago. He has since re-opened his recruitment twice – the latest being last month after Tim DeRuyter was named the Bulldogs new head coach.
He has scheduled an official visit to Oregon State on January 13, and the Beavers offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh visited him on Wednesday evening.
"It went well," said Keller. "I really like the o-line coach."
The OSU visit pushed back a visit with DeRuyter. "He's coming tomorrow," said Keller.
DeRuyter announced seven coaching hires on Wednesday, including his entire defensive staff. However, no offensive line coach was named. Keller has an idea, but he has not been told about a new hire. "I'm thinking it's going to be [Derek] Frazier."
"I'm really excited about [Tim] McDonald coming," Keller added about the former NFL All-Pro safety DeRuyter hired to coach the Bulldog secondary.
Keller will visit Fresno State on January 20 for his official trip. That date is tentatively scheduled to be the Bulldogs marquee recruiting weekend. "I'm definitely going to be there. I'm not sure who else is coming yet. I haven't talked to anyone."
Besides the ‘Dogs and Beavers, the only other school he is considering is California.
"I've talked to Coach [Jeff] Tedford on Facebook," said Keller. "I think I'm going to visit Cal, hopefully, but Tedford hasn't gotten back with me yet."
If he visits Berkeley, it will be on Jan. 27 – the only weekend available for the three-star to visit.
