Beavers Watching Norris

Slade Norris is a 6-2.5, 209-pound athlete from Portland (Ore.) Jesuit, and expect Slade to be one of the more coveted athletes from the state of Oregon for the recruiting class of 2004. And while he's made a name for himself catching the pigskin, expect Norris to be one of those players that has the athleticism and game to switch sides without a hiccup.

"In college, they are probably looking at me at linebacker," Norris told after he finished the Seattle Nike camp Friday. He ran a very respectable 4.53 40, jumped 33.6 inches in the vertical and benched 185 pounds 16 times.

"Coming to the camp, I just wanted to come in and see how I ranked with the top guys in the state," he said. "And I came out of it thinking that I'm pretty decent. I think I can go to college ball and do alright."

So what will Slade take from the Nike coaching? "Quickness and feet had a lot to do with everything," he said. "And I have to work on the crispness of my routes. I'm a team player, there to do my job for the team. I'm a hard worker and I'll do what it takes to win."

In May, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, CAL, ASU, Colorado and Notre Dame came by Jesuit to see Slade and those are the schools he's focusing on for the time being.
