Two Beavs named to CFPA watchlist

TWO BEAVS -- senior Jordan Poyer and sophomore Trevor Romaine -- have been added to the 2012 College Football Performance Awards preseason watch lists for punt returners and specialists.

Jordan Poyer, a senior from Astoria, is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the nation headed into the 2012 season. He was a Pac-12 Conference Second Team selection last season on defense after posting 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions.

In addition, he averaged 14.1 yards per punt return last year and set a Reser Stadium record with an 85-yard return for a touchdown against UCLA.

He also averaged 22.7 yards on 30 kickoff returns.

Poyer, a 2012 co-team captain who recently was selected to the Lott Trophy watchlist will join senior wide receiver Markus Wheaton as the Beavers' representatives at Pac-12 Media Day in Los Angeles in late July.

Trevor Romaine, a sophomore from Corona, Calif., was one of eight true-freshmen kickers in the FBS in 2011. He set an OSU record for touchbacks with 10 (from the 30-yard line) and made 15 of 22 field goal attempts.

Romaine accounted for 72 points for the season, second among all true freshmen kickers.

The Beavers' fall camp opens Aug. 6, with the home opener Sept. 1 vs. Nicholls State at Reser Stadium, followed by Wisconsin who visits Sept. 8.
