"It's going pretty well," Walter Jones tells FOX Sports NEXT. "Track recruiting just opened, so I'm starting to get some calls for track."
The 6-foot-1, 177-pound athlete, who plans on competing in both sports at the next level, currently holds five scholarship offers, from Eastern Washington, Nevada, Oregon State, Utah, and Washington State.
He reports additional interest from a number of schools.
"Track-wise, I'm talking to Houston, Texas A&M, UCLA, Cal, and a little bit from Oregon," he shares. "For football, it's California, UCLA, Arizona State, and Houston."
At this point, Jones isn't ready to name leaders. First, he wants to take trips and get a feel for his options.
"I want to go up and visit," he explains. "I want to get a feel for the school and see if I'm going to fit in there.
"I know I want to go to Oregon State, Washington State, and Utah. And I want to leave some open just in case I get some more schools looking at me after my senior year, because I'm trying to have a good season this year, so maybe I'll get looked at by some more schools."
What will Jones be looking for when he does take visits?
"I just think I need to have a feel for it," he describes. "There's nothing particular that I'm looking for, I just really think that I'm going to get up there and fall in love with the campus and the coaching staff, and I just want to feel like it's a second home for me. I really want to feel like I'm going to be able to live here for four or five years and I'm going to love it."
