QB in Beaver orbit waiting for opportunity

RECRUITING CAN BE a lot of hurry up and wait sometimes. One Class of 2013 QB prospect in the Oregon State orbit finds himself in that very situation.

"I'm in the situation where I'm waiting for all these guys with 15-plus offers to make their decision.. Oregon State, Houston (and others) I'm just waiting to hear what they're going to do with the guys on the top of their recruiting boards," said Nate Romine.

Romine (6-0, 185) is out of Upland, Calif. and as a junior threw for 2,192 yards and 22 TDs. Over the phone Romine comes across as one of those forthright, high character guys college coaches love to have in their locker rooms. But his height, at the next level, is something he's having to fight through in the eyes of recruiters.

"I'm a Division I guy, and my size doesn't limit the type of playmaker and football player that I am," said Romine. "I'm going to play football no matter what, it's just a matter of where."

ROMINE SAID Oregon State had told him they were waiting on a pair of QBs they had offers out to, Johnny Stanton and Devante Kincade, to decide. Stanton verballed to Nebraska and Kincade pledged Ole Miss recently.

"Oregon State, they said we didn't get these guys, alright we're going (back to our) board… they said they liked me but being 5-11, 6-0, I see that their coaching staff is divided on me," said Romine.

WITH STANTON and Kincade going elsewhere, Oregon State just offered Fresno QB Khari McGee. As for Romine, he said he'll keep plugging along, waiting for the right school to give him an opportunity.

"I like Oregon State, I like the coaching staff, it's a school I'm very interested in," said Romine. "Corvallis is a small town but when I visited it a couple years ago I liked it a lot, I had a great experience there.

"Oregon State said they liked that I am mechanically sound and able to run a system similar to theirs at a high level. Coach Joe (Seumalo) who is recruiting me, he said I was very similar to their 6-foot starter from a few years ago, (Lyle Moevao)."

Romine said he's hearing most these days from Oregon State, Yale, Houston, Air Force and Nevada.
