Bellarmine LB earns another offer

Patrick McKillop is a 6-3, 230-pound linebacker from Tacoma (Wash.) Bellarmine Prep, and it's widely known around the Puget Sound area that McKillop is deadly against the run. A prototypical MIK-style linebacker, McKillop has the mentality and physicality to plug holes between the tackles like no other. Patrick is also smart enough to know that he still is learning the full linebacker game, so he's doing his utmost to bring his pass coverage up to his run-stuffing abilities.

TheInsiders.com spoke to Patrick between sessions at the James Hasty select camp Friday at Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Washington. "I had seen it on a couple of websites and my coach also came to me about it," Patrick said. "I wanted to do it because I saw that Ronnie Lott and all the guys are going to be here. It's a good experience and I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to play for these guys."

So what did McKillop learn right off the bat? "We just learned a lot of little things, good things to know about pass drops, little things to make it faster," he said. "Our coach was teaching us things he said he didn't learn until he was in college, so to learn those types of things now is a big help. I'm pretty good with the run, but the things I've learned about the passing game at the camps this summer has been great."

Oregon State has been impressed with Patrick's game and ethic to the point of offering him a scholarship. You can now add Wyoming to the list of his admirers. "It's just nice to have another offer," he said of the 'Pokes tender. "I'd like to see what else pops up."

McKillop has some others in mind, namely the local schools, but he isn't shutting out the idea of leaving the area completely. "Washington is always a good option," he said. "I've heard some good things about Washington State, so I'd like to check them out. And Oregon too. I'd like to stay in the Pac-10 area if I can but I'll go outside the area if something better comes up."
