There aren't enough superlatives to describe the job Oregon State senior Matt Boyd did in the Beavs' 1-0 elimination game victory over Indiana.
The Hoosiers hadn't been shut out all season long.
Boyd held them to four hits, didn't allow a base-knock until the fifth inning and allowed only one Hoosier to reach second base.
Indiana has speed on the bases.
Boyd picked off not one, but two would-be base swipers with his deceptive move to first.
He struck out 11 Hoosiers on the night -- an OSU College World Series record -- walked only two and tossed a complete game shutout on 121 pitches.
It was the first 1-0 shutout at the College World Series in nearly 30 years (1985) when three Arkansas pitchers combined to shut out South Carolina.
And OSU needed every bit of it because Indiana hurler Aaron Slegers, was very tough on the Beavs over his nine innings of work.
OSU left seven men on base and managed seven hits and two walks against the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year.
The Beavers' run came in the fourth inning. Kavin Keyes got his second hit of the game to center field. Ryan Barnes then squared around to bunt, but then pulled the bat back and ripped a doubled down the left field line, advancing Keyes to third. Jake Rodriguez hit a shallow fly to right but Keyes raced home to score the game's only run.
The Beavs will now try to exact some revenge on the team that beat them 5-4 in the opening round of the CWS -- Mississippi State.
Oregon State and MSU meet on Friday at 12 pm. PT on ESPN.
If OSU wins Friday, in what will be their third elimination game in Omaha and fourth overall this postseason, the Beavs and Bulldogs would meet again on Saturday in Omaha for the right to advance to the championship final.
