Future Beav LB has speed to burn

THE PROLIFERATION OF the spread and read option offenses has placed a higher premium on linebackers with quicks and speed. And OSU has landed a verbal commitment from a ‘backer who has serious wheels in Ricky Liuchan.

For Ricky Liuchan (6-2, 200) out of Mission Hills High in San Marcos, Calif., it came down to fit.

"First, I love the coaches, I know Coach Mike Riley is a great guy. OSU is also located in a small town and that's what I wanted. It's just a perfect fir for me to focus on school and football," said Liuchan.

Danny Langsdorf was the area recruiter for Liuchan and he said they developed a strong bond.

"They really liked my speed is what they told me," said Liuchan. "They like the way I can read a play."

Indeed, that was what stood out to Scout.com's Greg Biggins last season when he saw Liuchan play live.

"He can drop in coverage and covers a lot of ground but really excels when he can chase down plays with his speed and quickness," says Biggins.

LIUCHAN IS RATED the No. 66 outside linebacker prospect nationally by Scout.com and three stars.

In addition to the Beavs, he held offers from Cal, Iowa State and San Diego State.

Liuchan earned 2nd team all-state underclass honors last season as a junior.
