Beavs trail USC at half 21-14

USC WAS THE one putting up the bigger first half numbers -- 258 yards and 21 points. Oregon State caught fire for a short time in the second quarter but it was enough to tie the game at 14-all before USC went back to the ground and carved out another score. So what the heck is going on here?

USC hasn't been able to run much, and yet they've put up 113 ground yards on Oregon State through two quarters. Their first play from scrimmage, meanwhile, was a 71-yard scoring strike to Marqise Lee, whom Oregon State somehow forgot to cover -- there was no one around him when he made the catch.

USC put together a long drive, 72 yards on nine plays to notch their second score before OSU responded. And respond they did with two TDs in 14 seconds.

First, Sean Mannion completed a 27-yard throw to Brandin Cooks to cap a 45-yard play drive and then the next snap, Ryan Murphy returned an interception 41 yards for the score. The Beavs had another drive that ended when Mannion was picked in the end zone.

USC's third scoring drive, built on what else, the run, went 10 plays and 75 yards.

One surprise, running back Terron Ward has found success running the ball, with 46 first-half rushing yards. And he's done it on only five carries.
