Collier, Nelson star again as Beavs win

IT WAS A GAME over that took a while to complete – Oregon State finally played Arkansas-Pine Bluff on the hardcourt after inclement weather forced the tilt to be moved out a week but the Beavs claimed a 77-63 win. But the outcome was anything but a foregone conclusion in the first half.

Roberto Nelson scored 26 points and Devon Collier went double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Oregon State. Nelson and Collier entered the game as the top scoring duo in the nation, averaging 25 and 23 points, respectively. And Oregon State (4-2) scored the first seven points and marched out to a 12-2 lead. But…

But Arkansas-Pine Bluff stormed back to take a lead of their own on a layup by Sean Tingle that made it 26-25 with 5:46 remaining in the half.

The Beavers went into the break with a 36-32 lead thanks to a buzzer beating put-back by Langston Morris-Walker.

Oregon State was able to craft a little cushion early in the second half thanks in part to their forcing turnovers -- a steal and breakaway slam dunk by Collier put the Beavers ahead 47-38 with 16:24 left.

From then on, it was the Beavers who dictated the game.

OSU led by as many as 20 points in the second half.

The teams were scheduled to play Dec. 7, but the game was rescheduled three times as the Golden Lions were unable to fly out of Dallas, Texas due to inclement weather.

The delay meant lengthy layoffs for both teams. The Beavers previous game was a 93-81loss at DePaul on Dec. 1. The Golden Lions last game was a 65-72 loss to Hampton on Nov. 30.

It was Collier's fourth straight game with at least 20 points – he has shot a scintillating 77 percent from the floor in that span.

Nelson has scored in double digits for 23 straight games.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff now has lost seven straight games, all on the road.
