Recruiting about to pick up again for Beavs

THE CURRENT DEAD PERIOD finally comes to a close later this week. And Oregon State beginning Friday will hold its first official visit weekend since last year.

Many college football coaches are at the American Football Coaches Association annual convention in Indianapolis that runs through Wednesday.

The dead period runs through the 15th and the Beaver coaches are expected to make some quick in-homes/school visits on Thursday before returning to campus to host prospects.

Oregon State tends to wait until after the season for big recruiting weekends. There are already 10 official visitors for this weekend on a list that could grow larger by the end of the week.

Most of those 10 have already verballed to the Beavs and while it's not as compelling a storyline, the hard truth is that recruiting is just as much about holding onto the ones you've got as it is closing on uncommitted prospects.

That said, it would be a pretty big coup if Oregon State were to flip Kammy Delp (6-4, 320).

Delp, listed by as a three-star offensive guard prospect, verbally committed to ASU earlier this month but said he would still take an official visit to Oregon State, (followed by a visit to UW).

Delp said one of the big factors in his decision to choose ASU was because they wanted him to play DL, his position of choice.

Oregon State, Delp said, also wants him as a d-lineman.

There are three more recruiting weekends left before Signing Day – Jan. 17th, 24th and 31st.

Signing Day is always the first Wednesday in February. This year it falls on Feb. 5.
