Heard 'round the OSU recruiting campfire

FOR BEAVER FANS, they've now officially entered the hold-on portion of the recruiting cycle. Recruiting is always just as much about hanging onto verbal commitments as much as it is about gaining new ones -- but it takes on even greater importance during the final days and hours before prospects start faxing in their signed Letters of Intent this coming Wednesday.

Several Pac-12 programs have been trying to get in on Kalani Vakameilalo and a few have been successful in getting him to take trips -- Washington with new coach Chris Petersen in particular came on very strong. And Vakameilalo, in taking trips, became a soft verbal.

But he's now simply listed as a verbal to OSU. A prep source told BF.C that Vakameilalo is solid with the Beavers and feels a sense of loyalty yo the OSU coaching staff. A very good get for Oregon State.

That doesn't mean everything will stay as it is throughout the commit list between now and Signing Day. There are a number of Beaver verbals who are getting the full court press from other schools.

We're hearing Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are both trying to keep Bright Ugwoegbu warm and on the back burner in case something falls through for them with some of their commitments.

Also, Jonathan Willis might be on Oklahoma and K-State's radar and Iowa State is lurking on Glyeb Ewing.

Meanwhile, Datrin Guyton is thinking about TCU and Texas -- some of quotes in this recent story from the TCU site aren't exactly what OSU fans probably want to hear: CLICK HERE

The final days before Signing Day are always compelling. It's always hold-on time, not just for the Beavs but for everyone else as well.

And there figures to be plenty more to come between now and Wednesday morning when the faxes start to roll in for the Beavs.
