Oregon State Notebook

OFFERING CANADIAN PROSPECTS out on the recruiting trail can be risky, the competition level isn't the same as it is in the U.S. But New Westminster, British Columbia offensive lineman Harper Sherman is the exception. He holds an Oregon State offer, and the Pac-12 competition is pitched for his services.

Four Pac-12 schools have offered Harper Sherman - Oregon State, Arizona, Cal and WSU. He also holds offers from Nevada, San Diego State, UTEP and Wyoming.

Meanwhile, OSU is doing a strong job in recruiting Ventura, Calif. wideout Lavan Alston out of St. Bonaventure High.

"Oregon State was my first offer and they find me very similar to Markus Wheaton and Brandin Cooks and they're selling me on building the legacy and that Oregon State is the perfect fit for me," Alston (6-0, 175) told Scout.com's Brandon Huffman.

Alston has camped with Oregon State and ASU already this month.

Alston is up to 11 offers.

The West Roster for The Opening/Elite 11 has been released and it includes several prospects considering Oregon State.

You can find the roster and player notes HERE.

Oregon State senior quarterback Sean Mannion will serve as a camp counselor at the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. The five-day event begins July 5.

"As one of the nation's top quarterbacks Sean is a great addition to the Elite 11 finals as a counselor," Elite 11 head coach Trent Dilfer said. "I look forward to tapping into the wealth of experience and knowledge he has to share with the high school participants."

Mannion is also serving as a counselor at the Massing Passing Academy next month in Louisiana.

Kurt Paulson, who coached at Montana for three seasons, will join the Oregon State men's basketball program as the director of basketball operations.

Paulson, 31, worked for Tinkle at Montana as an assistant coach in 2013-14 and as a graduate assistant coach in 2009-10 and 2010-11. He was the head coach at Bigfork High School from 2011-13 and an assistant coach at his alma mater, Carroll College, from 2007-09.
