OSU’s Hamlett on watch list

OREGON STATE tight end Connor Hamlett has been named to the 2014 John Mackey Award Preseason watch list, one of 38 nominees honoring the nation’s most outstanding tight end. Hamlett endured an injury-marred 2013 campaign and still managed 40 catches and five scores.

Connor Hamlett is expected to see even more passes come his way in 2014, with star wideout Brandin Cooks having left early for the NFL. Junior tight ends Caleb Smith and Kellen Clute are also in the fold, though Hamlett is the top TE target in the pattern.

The John Mackey Award presented since 2000, with 13 alumni having gone on to play in the NFL.

NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position.

The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2014 John Mackey and will be announced on December 10, 2014 and then presented live on December 11, 2014 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2014 Mackey Midseason Watch List on October 13, 2014 the 2014 Mackey Semi-finalists on November 17, 2014 and the 2014 Mackey Finalists on November 24, 2014.
