These nightly practices are less intense than their daytime counterparts.
The team only wears shells as opposed to full pads, meaning there is no tackling and little that simulates a game-type situation.
Even so, the quarterbacks got a lot of throws in during the skelly and full team drills.
In the full team drills, Sean Mannion and Luke Del Rio took turns piloting an offense down the length of the field. Mannion was sharp, completing 7-of-9 passes. The two incompletions were deflected by defensive tackle Edwin Delva and then CB Larry Scott.
Del Rio was 6-of-9, including a great catch from Malik Gilmore.
On the play, the ball was tipped in the air by a defender, and the two of them each dove for the ball before it hit the ground, with Gilmore making the reception.
Brent Vanderveen didn’t practice with the full team offense, but he was 3-of-4 in the skelly.
Receiver Richard Mullaney has been in-and-out of practices the past few days, and after missing today’s earlier practice, he took reps tonight. He caught four passes on six targets from Mannion.
However, Caleb Smith was Mannion’s favorite target, catching six balls on seven targets from Mannion.
New to this practice was that the Beavers ran a few Hail Marys. Two times, they ran the play with defenders.
Defensive end Obum Gwacham was back deep as a defensive back, and he came down with the interception on both occasions.
Then to wrap up practice, the players took off their shoulder pads and walked through the full team drills in street clothes.
The injured list was largely the same: Isaac Seumalo, Victor Bolden, D.J. Alexander, Dashon Hunt, Rahmel Dockery, Hunter Jarmon and Tyler Anderson all sat out. Offensive lineman Sean Harlow and cornerback Malcolm Marable also joined the group this evening.
