That game 10 years ago resulted in a 42-14 OSU win over PSU. Will Oregon State coast to an easy “W” again this time, or will that damned slow start syndrome plague the Beavs once again?
Some things you might not have known headed into the game …
It’s been two years since Oregon State ran back a punt for a TD, or blocked a punt. Does that change on Saturday?
The last time Oregon State shutout a team was six years ago, in the 2008 Sun Bowl.
Some think this 2014 defense, which looked stout virtually all fall camp long, might have a shot to put up a zero against PSU.
The game is being televised by live on the Pac-12 Networks’ Oregon and Washington regional net-
works. If you’re in the Pacific Northwest, you’re all set. If not, you should check with your carrier. But DISH Network customers are OK -- Dish will offer the game on overflow on channel 406.3 for
Hopper-users and 593 for non-Hoppers.
For the first time since the 2005 season, OSU has a new coordinator in the
Longtime offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf (2005-13) left the program in January to
return to the NFL with the New York Giants as quarterbacks coach. Langsdorf replacement is John Garrett,
who has had a lengthy NFL coaching career with the Cowboys (his brother Jason is the head coach there), Ben-
gals, Cardinals and Buccaneers, as well as in college at Virginia.
Garrett also coaches the quarterbacks and
tight ends with the contributions of OSU graduate assistant coaches Tavita Thompson.
No other Pac-12 team can boast as much NFL coaching experience as the Beavers. OSU’s
full-time coaches have 60 years of NFL experience, including Mike Riley as the head coach of the San Diego Chargers. Here are the totals -- Mike Riley (4 years), Mark Banker (3), Bruce Read (7), Mike Cavanaugh
(2), John Garrett (19), Rod Perry (23) and Chris Brasfield (2).
Oregon State’s home record of 61-25 this century at Reser Stadium is third best in the
Pac-12 Conference, trailing the home records of only Oregon (73-13) and USC (67-15). As shocking as the two recent defeats to FCS teams were, OSU should handily add to that home record on Saturday.
A little déjà vu for Beavs this Saturday
