HOOPS: Beavs to hold walk on tryouts

WAYNE TINKLE HAS a considerable job ahead in rebuilding the Oregon State basketball team to the point in can compete for Pac-12 championships. It would help if he could find a gem or two among a group of walk ons. As such, the men’s basketball team will hold a tryout one week from Saturday for OSU students interested in walking on for the 2014-15 season, the school said in a release.

The tryout will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 on the second level of the OSU Basketball Center, located directly behind Gill Coliseum and just north of the Sports Performance Center off Ralph Miller Drive.

All walk-on prospects are required to have two-plus years of varsity basketball high school experience and be a full-time student at Oregon State. All costs incurred for the tryout are the responsibility of the prospect, the school said.

Students interested in trying out must stop by the Oregon State Athletic Department Compliance Office at Gill Coliseum to fill out the necessary paperwork.

Physicals must be completed by Tuesday, Sept. 30 and paperwork must be submitted to the Compliance Office by Thursday, Oct. 2 to tryout.

OSu made a point of mentioning there will be no exceptions to the deadlines.

For more information, potential walk ons can contact Kurt Paulson, director of basketball operations, at kurt.paulson@oregonstate.edu.
