Oregon 47, Oregon State 19
November 29, 2014
General thoughts on the game…
“I was very disappointed. The other disappointment I have is that we can’t start practicing tomorrow for next year. Obviously in the first half in particular we gave up too many big plays. Right now today we are not a good enough offensive team. We need to score more points. With the number of points being scored now and with offense being as good as they are we have to score more points than we’re doing. That’s the state of affairs for today and we start immediately to fix that.”
What is next…
“For coaches it’s evaluation of what we are doing, where we can go and the direction of everything we’re going to do. Recruiting is a big, big issue for us. For players it’s development time. We can’t practice but we can train and get ready for spring practice. That’s what will all be started immediately.”
“Sean Mannion really did have a great career. It wasn’t an accident. He is extremely talented and a very hard worker who had the respect of his team from the beginning. He was a three-time captain.
It’s important not to just single him out. There are some fabulous players and guys in this senior class. It’s a very good group of people who played a lot of football for us.”
On Dylan Wynn…
“He has always set a high standard for effort and has absolutely never wavered in that from the minute he got here. He finished tonight with a performance that kept his identity intact forever. He is the ultimate grinder, he stays after it and I’m proud to be associated with a guy who works that hard.”
“I can assure you that we will work very hard to get this thing fixed and get it ready for next year.”
On, the defensive struggles in the first half…
“We didn’t execute our defense as well as we should have. They are a really good team and they capitalized on our mistakes.”
On, what the atmosphere was like in the locker room post game…
“It’s sad, this is the family I have been with for four years and all of the seniors are a little bit down. However my big message for the underclassmen was to remember this feeling. I have been in the ups for Beaver Nation and the downs, and I just told them to go into the off season and do whatever you can to get better.”
On, what he thought went wrong during this game…
“They are just a really good team. With a team like that the margin for error is a lot smaller and they capitalized on mistakes that we made. That just how it goes, it’s football and that is how it’s played.”
On, why he thought the point differential was so large this game as opposed to past Civil War games…
“I’m disappointed but then again this is one of the best Duck teams I have ever played against, they fired on all cylinders and I wish them the best of luck in the National Championship.”
Thoughts on the game…
You know it is disappointing. I’m really proud of this team not just tonight but every day at practice, every day in meetings, working out it is just the identity of this program. I know the scoreboard may have not looked the way we wanted it to I know everyone on this team and this program can be proud of the effort we put out tonight.
On the mood of the locker room…
There are a lot of emotions going on in there. It is disappointing the way it had to end. I think when guys put a lot of effort in something with each other it really matters regardless of how it ends it is always sad.
On the program next year…
I think the future is very bright. We had a lot of young guys playing this year especially on offense and they have all gotten better as the year has gone on. This is a great program with a great coaching staff, from top to bottom and the players work very hard. With that combination it makes for great football. I have total faith that everyone will continue to work hard and that is how it has always been. I think this team will be great in the future.
On Mariota and the Heisman race…
He is a great player. I don’t pay much attention to the Heisman but from what I have heard and knowing Marcus I think he is totally deserving of that.
