Seven Beavs earn Pac-12 all-academic honors

A TRIO OF Oregon State football players, Obum Gwacham, Connor Hamlett and Will Hopkins, are part of a group of seven Beavs who were named the 2014 Pac-12 Conference Football All-Academic.

Obum Gwacham, a senior defensive end majoring in marketing, Connor Hamlett, a senior tight end studying management and Will Hopkins, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, pursuing a degree in business, made the first-team academic list for the first time.

Joining the Beaver trio were cornerback Dashon Hunt (public health), quarterback Sean Mannion (master’s in interdisciplinary studies), fullback Ricky Ortiz (agricultural sciences) and offensive tackle Dustin Stanton (business) as honorable mention.

Hamlett, a senior, has been honored for his academic pursuits by the Pac-12 four times, while Mannion and Gwacham are three-time members. This is the second honor for Ortiz and Stanton.

To be eligible for the Pac-12 All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team’s games.
