VERBAL: Andersen's first LB is Tavita Faaiu

NEW OSU COACH Gary Andersen has less than seven weeks to put together his first recruiting class -- and it’s a very small pool with so many having long since come off the board. But any and all Andersen lands, be they unearthed gems and/or recruits long on potential but short on offers, will be guys who keenly fit Andersen’s vision. One of them is Tavita Faaiu. BF.C talks to the newest Beav.

Tavita Faaiu checks in at 6-3, 245-pounds on his page. Sounds like a defensive end, right?

Gary Andersen looks to have something different in mind.

“Coach Andersen talked about me playing outside linebacker,” Faaiu told BF.C.

Andersen offered Faaiu on Wednesday and the City College of San Francisco product jumped on it.

Oregon State just seemed like the perfect spot for me,” said Faaiu. “It isn't too far and isn't too close -- just perfect.

“And the fact that Coach Gary Andersen told me himself that he wanted to coach me, that meant a lot.”

Faaiu racked up 63 tackles (38 solo) this past season according to the official CCCAA stat book, with six sacks.

And he hits hard – with three forced fumbles on the year.

“My goal was to play in the Pac-12 and stay out West so that my family and friends could watch me. After talking with my dad, he really felt like it was the perfect opportunity -- especially with a new head coach,” said Faaiu.
