Dave Baldwin new Beav offensive coordinator

GARY ANDERSEN HAS settled on his offensive coordinator. Andersen and Oregon State announced Sunday that Dave Baldwin has been named offensive coordinator and Kevin McGiven quarterbacks coach. Baldwin comes from Colorado State, where he spent the past three seasons as the Rams' offensive coordinator.

Dave Baldwin has extensive college coaching experience and was nominated the last two years for the Broyles Award, recognizing the nation’s top assistant coach. The Granada Hills, Calif., native spent the last 13 seasons as an offensive coordinator, which includes stints at Cincinnati, Baylor, Michigan State, New Mexico and Utah State, (where he worked for then Aggies head coach Gary Andersen).

Baldwin has also served as a head coach for a total of 10 seasons at San Jose State, Cal State Northridge, Santa Rosa Junior College and Santa Barbara Junior College. He was the interim head coach at CSU this postseason, where Colorado State feel to Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl.

While at Utah State, Baldwin was named the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Offensive Coordinator of the Year. The Aggies were one of the most explosive teams in the country offensively, breaking the school record for total offense twice. Baldwin is a 1978 graduate of Cal State Northridge and earned his master’s from St. Mary’s in 1986.

New QBs coach Kevin McGiven spent the last two years as Utah State’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He was with Andersen in 2009 at Utah State as the assistant head/quarterbacks coach.

McGiven helped led the Aggies to a victory over UTEP Dec. 20 in the New Mexico Bowl and to an overall record of 10-4. McGiven was selected the FootballScoop Quarterbacks Coach of the Year after he worked with four different starting signal-callers due to injuries. USU set numerous offensive school records during the last two seasons under McGiven.

McGiven coached at Montana State in 2012 as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach and led the Bobcats to the Big Sky Conference title. In addition, he has served in various offensive coaching capacities at Memphis, Weber State, Southern Utah, BYU, Louisiana Tech and Mountain View High School in Utah. McGiven is a 2001 graduate of Utah Valley and earned his master’s from BYU in 2005.

“Dave and Kevin bring experience and continuity to our staff and offense,” Andersen said in a statement. “I know what to expect from these two as coaches and what to expect from our offense. They absolutely fit our program and Oregon State University, and this is another great step for our future.”

In addition, Andersen announced the following coaching staff assignments: Kalani Sitake, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator; Dave Baldwin, offensive coordinator; Kevin McGiven, quarterbacks coach; T.J. Woods, offensive line; Chad Kauha’aha’a, defensive line; Ilaisa Tuiaki, linebackers; and Derrick Odum, defensive backs.

OSU will announce a running backs coach in the near future, the school said.

All appointments are contingent on Oregon State's Administration and Human Resources' approval.
