Obum Gwacham makes his mark at combine

HEADED INTO the NFL Combine, the feeling was that Oregon State's Obum Gwacham would test well because of his athleticism. But there was also a report that Gwacham had bulked up about 20 pounds leading up to the combine, and indeed he weighed in at 246 pounds in Indy. Would the new weight slow him down? Hardly.

Obum Gwacham (6-5, 246) tested with the defensive linemen on Sunday, though he may fit best as a linebacker in the NFL.

Regardless, the defensive end put up some good numbers. His combine results:

40-yard dash: 4.72 (third best)

Vertical jump: 36.0 (sixth best)

Broad jump: 121.0 (third best)

Bench press reps of 225 pounds: 22

No results were listed for Gwacham in the three-cone drill, 20-yard or 60-yard shuttle.

Among the recent tweets about Gwacham:

"He'll force scouts back to tape with his numbers here," said Dan Kadar, SB Nation Draft Editor.

"Obum Gwacham: 6'5" 246 lbs - 34 3/8" arms - 10" hands," reports Rotoworld's Josh Norris.

"Player to watch in late rounds for Eagles: Oregon St edge rusher Obum Gwacham," said Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.

"Watched DE/LB Obum Gwacham from Oregon State. Oh man, I am a fan. Great first step and tenacious player. Late rounder with upside!" said Shane Hallam of DraftTv.com.

Beaver CB Steven Nelson will take part in his on-field drills on Monday.
