VERBAL: Florida RB goes black and orange

IT'S ANOTHER FLORIDA verbal for Oregon State. Artavis Pierce, a 5-11, 187-pound running back with double digit offers out of Auburndale, Florida, has verbally committed to Oregon State.

Artavis Pierce held offers from Alabama State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Florida A&M, Georgia State, Ohio, Utah State and others.

It's yet another Florida verbal commitment for Oregon State, with Telly Lockette running the recruiting point for the Beavs in Florida.

Lockette comes from South Florida, where he spent the past two years in his first collegiate assistant coaching job (also running backs). Prior to that, Lockette was the head coach at Miami Central High, where he won 60 games and two state titles in five seasons. Other new assistants at Oregon State, such as new defensive backs coach Derrick Odum, also have ties to Florida, having recruited Florida for SMU (as well as Texas).

The news was first reported by Scout.com's Corey Bender, who also reported another Floridian verbal for the Beavs, DB Devon Clarke, has decommited from OSU, saying he hasn't been in contact with OSU of late and decided it wasn't a good fit.

Meanwhile, Pierce is a sleeper, says Bender.

"A real talented back who's extremely underrated, and another great get out of the Sunshine State for Gary Andersen's staff," said Bender.
