OSU's Hendrix drafted by Yankees

OREGON STATE JUNIOR Jeff Hendrix was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees.

Hendrix, Oregon State's star center fielder, hit .339 this season with 34 RBIs, six home runs and five stolen bases.

Last year, he was drafted in the 39th round but chose to return to Oregon State, in part to bolster his draft stock.

Boy did that work out well.

The question is if he'll return to Corvallis again one last time or go pro as a junior.

The general pre-draft consensus was that Hendrix would be picked between the second- and fifth-rounds and would opt to leave early.

Hendrix joins Andrew Moore, who was selected in the second round by the Mariners. Oregon State has had a player taken in the MLB draft every year since 1993.
