Fortenberry breaks down visit expectations

Of late, the Oregon State Beavers have been hitting the JUCO ranks hard, extending offers to a number of seasoned athletes. One of those will be visiting Corvallis this weekend and he is anxious to see what Corvallis has to offer.

Deante Fortenberry is a two-star cornerback at City College of San Francisco with seven offers currently: Baylor, Colorado State, Hawaii, Iowa State, Utah State and Western Kentucky along with Oregon State. While the other six programs have offered, Oregon State is the only one that currently he has scheduled a visit to.

“Maybe after the season I’ll take some more. For now I just want to be able to kind of focus on my season, win some games with my team, and get this one visit up to OSU for right now," Fortenberry told BeaverBlitz. "They’re showing me the most love so I wanted to get up there and check it out.”

While Coach Baldwin and Coach Hall have been leading the recruitment for Fortenberry, a friend on the Beavers roster has also been in Deante’s ear.

“I know Xavier Crawford fairly well. They’ve all been telling me about how it’s a great program that’s been able to put some players in the NFL," he said. "I know that with the corners that they have it’s going to be a great competition up there.”

While the Beavers will undoubtedly show Deante all that Oregon State has to offer their student athletes, in the end Deante is looking for a couple things in his next college.

“I really want to be part of something where I feel like the coaches are there for me to help me achieve my dreams," he said. "It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the NFL and I want to go to a place that can help me get there, while also giving me an opportunity to get an education.”

BeaverBlitz will follow up with Deante Fortenberry, as well as the rest of the recruits that will be visiting for the Cal game, following their visits.
