TMP Elite was kind to the Oregon State football program during the 2017 recruiting cycle. One of Northern California’s premier 7on7 programs, TMP had four players off of their team sign with the Beavers last month. And it appears the Beavers are back for more after extending offers to a number of TMP athletes as part of the 2018 class.
Deshon Wilson is one of those athletes that the Beavers have targeted early on in the recruiting process. The three-star defensive back out of Stellar Prep in Hayward, California, picked up an offer from the Beavers just before signing day to go along with offers he already held from New Mexico, San Jose State, and Utah State. He has since earned offers from Nevada, Hawaii and Wyoming, and also is hearing from USC following an unofficial visit that he took there.
Despite his growing interest from different programs, one program seems to moving to the forefront of his recruitment.
“Oregon State has always been a school that has kind of stood out to me and it is one of my top schools. My older sister actually ran track up there in 2008 and graduated from there,” Wilson told BeaverBlitz.
Dave Baldwin, who recruits the Bay Area, has been leading Wilson’s recruitment for the Beavers. Recently cornerback coach, Cory Hall has been in contact as well. They aren’t the only two though that Wilson has been in touch with as he has reached out to former teammate on TMP Isaiah Hodgins, who is already in Corvallis. Wilson and Hodgins also played against one another as Wilson’s Stellar Prep squared off against Hodgins’ Berean Christian.
“Coach Baldwin has been the main coach that I’ve talking with, but Coach Hall recently got in contact with me. We’ve been just having small talk for the most part. I’m looking forward to talking more with the coaches when I’m up there in a couple weeks. And then with Isaiah already up there, I hear from him too about how things are up there.”
The Bay Area defensive back plans on attending the Beavers spring game and junior day on March 18th alongside several other members of the TMP family, both past and present.
“I’ll be up there for the Beavers Spring Game and the Junior Day that they’re hosting. I’m hoping to get a better feel for the atmosphere around campus and how everything kind of just fits around the campus. Isaah (Crocker) and some other guys from TMP are going up there with me for the weekend.”
Wilson would like to make his commitment at some point this spring or summer. We will be checking back in with DeShon Wilson to get his thoughts on his visit once he returns home.
