Although he is planning to attend Oregon State's Junior Day this weekend, Hayward (Calif.) Stellar Prep cornerback Deshon Wilson opted to commit to Oregon State prior to his visit.
He made the announcement via social media on Wednesday afternoon:
The 6-foot-1, 180 pound athlete had a handful of offers, but plans to follow teammates from his TMP Elite 7-on-7 team to Corvallis, including Isaiah Hodgins who is already on campus at Oregon State.
In 2017 the Beavers signed four members of the elite team and hope to add more in 2018.
"After discussing everything with my mother, I honestly chose Oregon State because I feel like I could be a great fit for the football program and I could contribute to the team as well. I'm also familiar with the area as I have relatives that stay in Corvallis," Wilson said.
"My sister was a big factor in my commitment," he continued. "Since she ran track and graduated from up there, she's the one who is most familiar with OSU. She told me before I made my decision to make sure that it was something that I really wanted to do."
Scout recruiting analyst Greg Biggins likes the pick-up for Oregon State.
"Nice pickup for the #Beavs," Biggins said of teh Wilson committment. "Safety size but corner skill set, brings some nice positional versatility to the table."
Does Wilson hope to recruit more players from TMP?
"I am going to push that TMP to Corvallis thing hard and also try to get guys to commit to the Greatest School in the Pac-12."
